Open Source at Digg
Digg has always been a user of open source. We were built on a LAMP stack and as we’ve developed new pieces of infrastructure we usually turned to open source components first for solutions. Over the 5 years since Digg started we’ve made many open source contributions and have hired open source developers to join our teams (and we’re still hiring).
So we’ve decided to showcase some of our contributions on our Open Source page. We often contribute patches or provide community support to several existing open source projects but many of the projects we’re showcasing were developed completely in house and even more of our open source projects can be followed from our github account.
We’ve taken an extra step and made much of the software we use easily installable on Debian. We use Debian Lenny in house and exposed a working repository with instructions to make it easy for anyone to try out our packages. As a service to the open source community we’ve also mirrored the official Debian repository we use as well as the PEAR repository which also serves as the us.pear.php.net mirror.
We will continue to release more of our open source code through these pages. If you want to be part of our efforts check out the jobs page; we’re hiring!
