Digging into the Top Stories of 2009
Hey all,
As 2009 winds down, I'm looking back at quite a year for us at Digg. As I sit and reflect on everything that we’ve accomplished within these walls at Digg HQ, I want everyone to know that it wouldn’t have been possible without our awesome, devoted Digg community. In 2009, we grew to more than 40 million strong, and that means that there is now more Digging and discovering happening than any time in our five year history.
In 2009, you came along for the ride as we announced Facebook Connect, DiggBar, Digg Ads, Content Ads, Digg Trends, Revamped Search, and more. Again, none of these new products would have succeeded if it wasn’t for your valuable comments and feedback. When we release products, we have a benefit like no other company: we have the fastest, most detailed and loyal feedback loop on the entire Internet! Like we always say, keep the feedback coming. It’s only going help us continue to innovate and bring a better experience to each of you.
It’s also intriguing to look back at the stories that dominated headlines, the homepage and various categories this year. From the good, the bad and the ugly, Digg has seen them all. Here are the top stories from 2009:
- Barack Obama Officially Becomes 44th American President
- Michael Jackson Dies
- The Story of Prisoner F95488
- The Pirate Bay Trial: The Official Verdict - Guilty
- AT&T blocks 4chan
To see the entire list, check out the latest project in Labs - Digg 365. Digg 365 is a visualization tool that captures and displays the blockbuster stories surfaced with your millions of Diggs.
You can also see the top ten in each category this year, including Technology, World & Business, Science, Gaming, Lifestyle, Entertainment, Sports and Offbeat.
Happy New Year to everyone, and thanks for making 2009 an unprecedented year. 2010 is sure to bring some exciting changes to Digg, so stay tuned!
Thanks,
Jay
