Digg's new VP of Engineering, Ben Folk-Williams
Good news from Digg!
We're happy to introduce our new VP of Engineering, Ben Folk-Williams!
This has been our most important role to fill at Digg. We were looking for someone who has led the development of a scalable platform, built strong teams, demonstrated operational excellence for web site performance, and has a history of developer-driven product innovation. We came across Ben and realized he fits all of those qualities, and many more -- including being a long-time Digg user.
Ben has been coding since 4th grade, loves big data problems and high volume websites, and can often be seen in coffee shops in the Mission district (and now walking over to Potrero!).
He's spent the last 4 years as VP of Engineering at Vast.com. Prior to that, he led engineering at Coremetrics. Ben brings a solid background in building engineering teams and platforms.
Ben comments on his new role at Digg: "Digg has fantastic fundamentals: A great brand, 20 million monthly uniques, with a very passionate core community, committed investors, and an exceptional team. Digg is uniquely positioned to redefine how people discover news - and it's great to be a part of that."
We're excited to welcome Ben to our team as we continue to build out the best platform for sharing news across the web.
If you'd like to meet Ben, you can find him right here at SXSW! Come say hello today at the Sheraton Austin hotel in Austin, TX. Digg CEO, Matt Williams, will be discussing how news is being affected by citizen journalism, wisdom of the crowds, social networks, and interest-based communities.
